Day 5-7 South West Tour
On arrival in North Cornwall we went to check out The Point near Polzeath. A nice set up with apartments and houses set around a golf course, gym, spa and restaurant. An easy 15min stroll down to Polzeath Beach to access the water sports and food places.
We then headed into Padstow to check in at St Petroc Bistro. As we were staying in a generous room we had an allocated parking space in a nearby garage. A huge bonus in Padstow! Our room was a good size with a double sofa bed for our daughter to sleep in. We had a bath rather than a shower which was ok but not as convenient, there were also ear plugs which should have rung alarm bells. Our room was above the restaurant and reception, you could hear a lot, fortunately we came in late enough to avoid the diners but did suffer early mornings from the staff getting ready for the day ahead.
Breakfast was included and very nice, a good selection of hot options as well as the buffet. Dinner at The Seafood Restaurant was very good but the meal of the trip was had at The Prawn on the Lawn. Amazing! You need to pre-book as it only has 20 covers and is very popular. A friend eat at it’s sister restaurant Barnaby’s which was also fabulous. We eat at St Petroc on the last night, we hadn’t booked but they were very accommodating and found us a table. They are running a summer special of lobster & chips at £29, delicious and a great price.
As for activities, we arrived in the midst of the storm but luckily managed to avoid the worst of it. Saturday was quite windy, but we decided to go ahead with our bike ride along the camel trail to Wadebridge. We had a nice easy ride with wind assist there but on the way back we had to work extra hard to cycle into the wind. The kids enjoyed hanging out at the beach and practicing their surfing skills. Sunday we played golf at St Enodoc’s Church Course. What a beautiful, challenging course. Thoroughly enjoyable and definitely worth a visit.
The rest of the time we spent catching up with friends and enjoying the scenery.
